Good vs. Great

Most people have heard of the book Good to Great by Jim Collins which talks about fortune 500 companies that went from mediocre to great. Some people have heard of the book Breakout Churches by Thom Rainer which applies the same idea of churches that went from getting by to great. The staff, elders team, and church council are now reading Breakout Churches.
Thom opens his book with this statement: "It is a sin to be good is God has called us to be great." I think that statement is a little over the top, but in so many ways true. How can we be satisfied with being just okay, when God has called us to be great? How can we be content with our attendence and new conversions stagnating when God has asked us to fulfill his Great Commission?
Any thoughts?

hey, i like your new layout as well!

i think that it would be really important to identify law and gospel while reading the book. some questions i would ask:

*are the people reading the book needing to hear more law or gospel? how can you provide that with the book's contents?
*what is meant by "great"? is it greater attendence? greater fellowship and support? greater financial giving? something else?
*can you do many of those great things at once?
*what is the greatness to which God has called us? ("us" being the entire christian church, us being the lcms, us being the church in turlock, us being individuals within the church, us in all of those interactions between)

and ect... are you doing a class or some such with this? hope all is well!
