A Day in San Francisco

Yesterday was my day off and Jen and I drove out to San Francisco. It was a good time. We started the day by a little tourism at Pier 39. We saw all the sea lions that congregate at the pier and could look across the water and see Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. I will have pictures of these as soon as Jen sends them to me. We walked around for a while around the water and then headed to Chinatown for lunch where we reminisced about the times we had spent in China. Then walked around Union Square and did some excellent shopping.
We decided that after some shopping we needed to go to Ghiradelli Square to pick up some free Ghiradelli chocolate samples and do some more shopping. Ghiradelli Square is right on the bay so I decided to check out the water temperature. Let's just say it's really cold, possibly colder than Lake Michigan. But we did see old men swimming in it some with wet suits, some without. They are much more hardcore than me.
After Ghiradelli Square we headed to City Lights Bookstore, which I guess was the first all paperback book store in the nation. It was pretty neat. Then we headed next door to Cafe Vesuvio where apparently Jack Kerouac used to hang out and Frances Ford Coppolla wrote part of the Godfather. We each enjoyed a beer there and did some people watching. I quite enjoyed that place and would like to go back. After that it was about 7 o' clock and time to head back. It was a very fun day and i really like San Francisco.
